nCLOSE : How to troubleshoot issues with 3.5mm reader and iPad settings:
***Volume must be to maximum at all times to read card swipe
Settings on iPad must be adjusted prior to swipe.
- Check settings/sounds/ringer alerts- set volume to max; turn off button beneath that says “ change with buttons”; Then go back to side of iPad and move button to max volume.
- Settings/privacy/microphone- make sure your specified app is turned “ ON”
- If using a cover on device, you must remove cover completely to connect 3.5mm jack directly to headphone jack to make sure reader connects directly.
- Log into your software app and try running a transaction with $0.01. If data was transferred from card swipe, it is working properly.
- If not working properly, you must test on reader manufacturers app to determine its not a hardware issue. Each manufacturer has its own app on iTunes. Make sure to test each reader with appropriate app prior to shipping out.
*For IDTech Shuttle, Unimag I/ II , UnimagPro I/II: use Unimag App (and then in dropdown choose correct reader).
Instructions for UniMag app:
On reader tab go to “I” where it shows “ Unimag Pro” , change to “shuttle” or “ unimag” depending on reader ( if has rubber piece on bottom its shuttle, if its hard black reader it’s a unimag).
- A) Press blue text at bottom of page under READER tab “ Connect with reader” should show attached/connected; If text is grayed out, reader is not connected and you must remove any iPad cover so it connects directly to reader to test .
- B) If reader shows attached/connect, go to next tab “ Swipe” and press blue text showing “ swipe card reader” and swipe card.
(Reader with IDtech logo on shuttle should be facing away from you) and data should transfer on screen showing reader is working properly.
- C) If it does not connect reader, then it is not recognizing reader and most likely either the reader has been damaged due to overuse/misuse over time OR the iPad headphone jack has been damaged due to reader moving constantly on side of iPad when a card is swiped because it is not secured in a quality enclosure ( Result: contact Apple to replace your headphone jack or iPad or contact distributor/reseller to replace your reader after troubleshooting all steps).
- D) Last, you must now Troubleshoot on another Apple device ( iPad or iPhone) to determine if the reader or iPad is the issue. Download the appropriate app for the reader from iTunes, re-check settings on device & follow steps #1-5 again.
If does not work, then need to troubleshoot if problem in the app or the reader:
- Delete your software app completely from device and reinstall from itunes. Software update can fix this problem. Also, if do all iOS updates as that can cause issue.
- Test the reader again per steps #1-4 above;
- Download “ unimag” app from itunes onto device to test to see if reader is working.
- Make sure you are only using Apple certified cable and OEM charger that came with the device ( cannot be any other manufacturers cable, ie.e- Belkin, Griffin, amazon cable).
Note :
